JeffCo Public Schools  (2023-2024)

Role: Web Designer & Developer

In Summer 2023, I joined the Jeffco Public Schools Website Redesign Project, collaborating with a team of three other web designers and a team of copywriters to overhaul and modernize the district’s digital presence. This large-scale initiative involved designing and migrating content for:

• Jeffco District Website

• Employee Intranet

• 140+ School Websites
   

This 18-month project culminated in December 2024, delivering an accessible, user-friendly, and visually cohesive online experience through the FinalSite Composer CMS.

Project Scope & Execution

​

The transition from the district’s old CMS to FinalSite Composer required a comprehensive redesign while ensuring content accuracy, usability, and compliance with accessibility standards. A key aspect of the project was not just visual design but also content review and migration, ensuring all information was accurate and aligned with Jeffco Best Practices and WCAG 508 Accessibility Standards.

Our approach focused on improving user experience, creating a modern, engaging visual identity, and implementing best practices for accessibility to serve diverse student, staff, and community needs.

Accessibility & Compliance Focus

​

A major emphasis of this project was ensuring compliance with WCAG 508 Accessibility Standards, making the sites inclusive for all users. Key areas of focus included:

• Use of Images – Followed accessibility best practices by ensuring:

  • Proper alt text and titles for screen readers.

  • Avoidance of images with excessive text, ensuring content was readable as native text.

• Color Contrast – Ensured all text met contrast guidelines, enhancing readability for visually impaired users.

• Clear Language – Simplified content by:

  • Using concise, direct language for web content.

  • Writing descriptive link text for better navigation.

  • Adding alt text for all images to improve screen reader usability.

• Headers & Title Hierarchy – Structured content using proper heading levels (H1, H2, H3, etc.), creating a logical and accessible reading order.

• Captioning for Videos – Implemented closed captioning requirements for all videos.

  • Mandated that all videos be hosted on YouTube to utilize automatic closed captions for accessibility.​

 

Impact & Results

Massive Digital Overhaul – Successfully redesigned and migrated 140+ school websites, the district website, and employee intranet within FinalSite Composer CMS.
Enhanced Accessibility & Usability – Ensured all sites met or exceeded WCAG 508 compliance standards, making content more accessible to diverse users.
Modernized Design & Branding – Created consistent, visually appealing, and user-friendly interfaces across all district sites.
Content Accuracy & Best Practices – Standardized and refined website content, ensuring clarity, readability, and alignment with Jeffco’s communication goals.

This project highlights my expertise in large-scale web design and content migration, my commitment to accessibility and user-centered design, and my ability to lead high-impact digital transformations in education.
